Newborn Baby Care

Newborn Baby Care at Home

Care can start the day you bring your baby home. The nurse sets up a safe changing and bathing area, checks the baby’s feeding, nappies, skin, cord and temperature, and keeps a simple log of feeds and wet and dirty nappies. Visits, day shifts or night shifts are available, and night support lets parents sleep between feeds.

Services Include

Goal

To give your newborn a safe, well-supported start at home while helping parents learn feeding, bathing and cord care with growing confidence.

Who Should Book Newborn Baby Care?

Newborn care suits first-time parents with no experienced relative at hand, families with twins, and babies who came home small or early and need extra warmth and feeding attention. It also suits mothers recovering from a caesarean who cannot yet lift or bathe the baby, and parents who would rather learn from someone experienced than from conflicting advice. A baby who is already feeding poorly should also be seen by a paediatrician.

What a Visit Covers

The nurse washes her hands, checks the baby’s temperature, colour, breathing and cord, and asks what has happened since the last visit. She helps with a feed, checking latch and burping, gives a sponge or tub bath in a warm room, cleans and dries the cord, changes the nappy and settles the baby on his or her back to sleep. Feeds and wet nappies are written down.

What We Watch, and What Needs a Doctor

Our nurses give supportive care. They watch feeding, weight, nappies, skin colour, temperature and breathing, and raise anything unusual with you the same day. They give medicines or drops only when your paediatrician has prescribed them. Treating jaundice, infection or a feeding problem is a doctor’s decision, and we will tell you plainly when the baby should be seen.

Babies We Care For

Where Newborn Care Helps Most

A senior nurse reviews the discharge notes first. The visits and the nurse are then matched to the baby’s needs.

First-Time Parents

Hands-on teaching for feeding, bathing and settling, at your own pace.

Twins

Two babies, two routines, and a second pair of experienced hands.

Small or Early Babies

Extra attention to warmth, feeding and weight after discharge from the nursery.

After a Caesarean

Lifting, bathing and changing while the mother’s wound is still healing.

Feeding Difficulties

Patient help with latch and positioning, with your paediatrician kept in the picture.

Tired Parents

Night cover so parents sleep between feeds while the baby is settled.

How We Work

Newborn care works when parents end up needing us less, not more. The nurse does the task once while you watch, then beside you, then watches while you do it. By the end of the plan the routine belongs to your household.

From Call to First Visit

  1. Discharge notes reviewed — birth weight, any nursery stay and your paediatrician’s instructions are read before the first visit.
  2. Plan agreed — visits, a day shift, nights or live-in cover, decided with the parents.
  3. Nurse matched — on newborn experience, language, and your preference for a female nurse.
  4. First visit sets things up — a safe changing and bathing area, a feed log, and a settled sleep space.

Daily notes — feeds, wet and dirty nappies, temperature and weight written down, so your paediatrician can see the pattern at the next check.

What Parents Gain From This

Nobody is born knowing how to bathe a newborn. Having someone experienced in the room for the first few weeks turns the frightening parts into ordinary ones, and leaves parents with a routine they can keep on their own.

Night Support for Newborns in Lahore

Sleep between feeds, not instead of them

Looking for a night nurse for a newborn in Lahore? The nights are usually the hardest part of the first month, and a tired mother heals more slowly. On a night shift the nurse changes, burps and settles the baby, brings him or her to the mother for feeds, and keeps the room warm and quiet in between. Breastfeeding is not interrupted; the mother simply does less of everything else.
Nurses visit homes across Johar Town, DHA, Gulberg, Model Town, Bahria Town, Valencia and Cantt. For the mother’s own recovery checks, see our postnatal care; for day-to-day help with rest, meals and movement, see mother care at home.

FAQs

Newborn Baby Care FAQs

Common questions about newborn baby care at home in Lahore.

Should we book nights, days, or both?

A day shift is usually about twelve hours, and a night shift covers the hours around the night feeds. Many families start with nights only, then add days if the mother is unwell or recovering from surgery. Live-in cover is available where a family wants one nurse in the house throughout.
One nurse per shift. Cover for a full day and night needs two, because nobody stays alert for twenty-four hours with a newborn. A live-in nurse is one person who sleeps in the house and works agreed hours with rest breaks, which works for a settled baby but not for one who needs constant attention.
A warm, draught-free corner for bathing and changing, the baby’s clothes and nappies, and whatever your paediatrician has prescribed. If you are using formula alongside breastfeeding on a doctor’s advice, have the bottles and steriliser ready. Tell us what you already own so we do not ask you to buy it twice.
Sometimes, if a nurse is free nearby. Newborn care is usually booked before the discharge date, which gives a better match and a calmer first night. If the baby is already home and the nights have become hard, call or WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly what is available.
Newborn care is almost always given by female nurses, and that is what we send unless you ask otherwise. Mention it when you book so we can match someone in your area. For breastfeeding support in particular, most mothers prefer a woman in the room.
The figure depends on visits against shifts, day against night, and how many weeks you want. Live-in cover is priced separately. Your coordinator gives you the amount before the first visit, and nothing is added later without telling you first.
We do not send a nurse who is unwell anywhere near a newborn, so occasionally one is swapped at short notice. Ring the coordinator and a relief nurse comes instead, after reading the feed and nappy log, so the baby’s routine carries on.
Newborn care at home is supportive, not neonatal treatment. A baby who needs intensive care belongs in a hospital nursery, and we will say so. For a baby recently discharged from a nursery we can look for a nurse with that background, while your paediatrician stays in charge of treatment. In an emergency, call 1122.
