Fracture Rehabilitation at Home in Lahore

A broken bone heals, but the joint above it stiffens and the muscle around it wastes. Our physiotherapists work on that stiffness, strength and confidence at home, increasing weight through the limb only as far as the orthopaedic doctor allows.

X-Ray Report Reviewed First

Stiffness Treated

Weight-Bearing Progressed Safely

Crutch and Walker Training

Fracture Rehabilitation

Fracture Recovery at Home

We ask for the latest X-ray report and the orthopaedic doctor’s instructions before starting. The physiotherapist measures joint movement, swelling and strength, and checks how your loved one walks or uses the arm. Treatment moves from gentle mobility work to strengthening and balance, with crutches, a walker or a stick introduced and then reduced as the doctor permits.

Services Include

Goal

To help the injured limb move, bear weight and function as well as possible, safely and at the pace the healing bone allows.

Who Should Book Fracture Rehabilitation?

This service is for anyone recovering from a broken wrist, arm, shoulder, hip, leg, ankle or spine, whether it was set in plaster, held in a brace or fixed in surgery with plates, rods or screws. It is particularly important for older adults after a hip or wrist fracture, for a joint that feels locked once the cast comes off, and for anyone who has become frightened of falling again.

Why Joints Stiffen in Plaster

Six weeks of immobilisation does its own damage. The joint capsule tightens, the muscles lose bulk quickly, the limb swells when it is lowered, and balance fades because the leg has not been trusted with weight. None of that heals on its own simply because the plaster is off, which is why graded mobility and strengthening work matters once the doctor clears it.

Weight-Bearing, One Stage at a Time

How much load the bone may take is a decision for your orthopaedic doctor, not the therapist, and it is written on the follow-up slip: non-weight-bearing, partial, or full as tolerated. We work strictly inside that limit. Crutches, a walker or a stick are set to the right height, taught properly, and then reduced as the doctor permits more load.

Who It Helps

Fractures We Rehabilitate at Home

The programme follows the fracture site, the fixation method and the latest X-ray report rather than a fixed timetable.

Hip Fracture in Older Adults

Standing, walking and stair practice after a hip fracture, with fall prevention built in.

Wrist and Forearm Fractures

Restoring the stiff wrist and grip after plaster or plating, and easing swelling.

Ankle and Foot Fractures

Graded weight-bearing, calf strength and balance work before walking unaided.

Shoulder and Collarbone

Gentle range work, then strengthening, so the arm is usable overhead again.

Surgically Fixed Fractures

Rehabilitation around plates, rods, nails or external fixators, with pin sites checked at each visit.

Spinal Fractures

Posture, log-rolling and safe movement within the brace restrictions your doctor has set.

Our Approach

Fracture rehabilitation is a conversation with the X-ray. We ask for the latest report before each stage, measure the joint at every visit so progress is visible, and push only as hard as the healing bone and your doctor allow.

How It Works

  1. Records first — the latest X-ray report and the orthopaedic doctor’s weight-bearing instructions are read before anything begins.
  2. Measurement — joint range, swelling, strength and walking or arm use are recorded in numbers, not impressions.
  3. Mobility phase — gentle hands-on mobilisation and active movement to recover the range lost in plaster.
  4. Strength and balance — progressive loading, walking-aid training and a fall-risk check of the house.

Review — the plan is revised after each orthopaedic follow-up, because the permitted load usually changes there.

Why a Second Fracture Worries Us

In older adults a fracture is usually a fall, and a fall usually has a reason. So the plan also looks at balance, footwear, lighting, loose rugs and the step at the bathroom door, not just the bone.

Physiotherapy After Cast Removal in Lahore

Getting the joint moving again

A common search in Lahore is what to do about a stiff wrist or a locked knee after plaster removal. The honest answer is graded work over several weeks: gentle mobilisation to free the joint, exercise to rebuild the muscle that wasted under the cast, elevation and compression for the swelling, and then loading the limb again. Home sessions make this easier, because a freshly out-of-plaster limb hates car journeys.
Our physiotherapists cover DHA, Gulberg, Johar Town, Model Town, Bahria Town, Wapda Town and other parts of Lahore. Where a plaster or back slab is still on, our nurses provide POP and back slab care, and stitch removal after surgical fixation.

FAQs

Fracture Rehabilitation FAQs

Common questions about fracture rehabilitation at home in Lahore.

When can rehabilitation start after a fracture?

Often while the cast is still on, with exercises for the joints above and below it and for the uninjured side. Once the plaster or brace is off and the orthopaedic doctor permits movement, the main programme begins.
Most courses run four to eight weeks, and a hip fracture in an older adult usually longer. It depends on the bone, how it was fixed, the patient’s age and how stiff the joint became. The therapist re-measures the joint each visit so you can see the pace.
The most recent X-ray report and the orthopaedic follow-up slip with the weight-bearing instruction written on it. That instruction shapes the whole programme, so please do not rely on memory for it.
Only as far as the orthopaedic doctor has allowed: non-weight-bearing, partial, or full as tolerated. The therapist works strictly inside that limit and increases load after the doctor changes it, never before.
A firm chair, a clear walking route and the crutches or walker already issued. For a wrist or ankle, a couple of pillows for elevation and, where advised, an ice pack. Loose clothing helps, and non-slip footwear is important before any walking practice.
Yes. Tell us when booking and we will match a male or female physiotherapist where one is available in your area. Families often prefer a female therapist for an elderly mother with a hip or shoulder fracture, where close support is needed.
The first visit is charged separately because it includes reviewing the X-ray report and writing the stage plan. Later visits are charged per session. Your coordinator gives you the figure before the first appointment and flags any aid that would cost extra.
Increasing pain, numbness, a cold or pale limb, or a swollen tender calf all need a doctor promptly rather than more exercise. Around pins or plates, new redness or discharge needs review too. The therapist explains each of these at the first visit.
