Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation

Post-Surgery Physiotherapy at Home in Lahore

After an operation, the right exercise at the right time matters more than hard work. Our physiotherapists read the surgeon’s instructions first, then help your loved one sit up, stand, walk and rebuild strength without straining the repair.

Surgeon’s Protocol Followed

Discharge Review

Safe Transfer Training

Walking Frame to Stick Progression

Post-Surgery Physiotherapy

Post-Surgery Rehabilitation at Home

Before the first session, we ask for the discharge summary and any surgeon’s restrictions, such as weight-bearing limits or hip precautions. The physiotherapist checks the operated area, swelling and pain, then sets stage-by-stage goals, from sitting up and standing to walking with a frame, then a stick and, where possible, unaided. Progress is reported to the family and, on request, to the surgeon.

Services Include

Goal

To help your loved one recover movement, strength and independence safely after surgery, following the surgeon’s plan and avoiding strain on the healing area.

Who Should Book Post-Surgery Physiotherapy?

This service is for anyone just home after a knee or hip replacement, spinal or ligament surgery, fracture fixation with plates or rods, heart bypass or a major abdominal operation. It matters most for older patients, for homes with stairs and no lift, and for families who are frightened of moving someone with fresh stitches or a new joint without being shown how.

Reading the Surgeon’s Instructions

Before the first session we ask for the discharge summary and any written restrictions: how much weight the operated leg may take, how far a new hip may bend, whether a brace stays on, and when stitches come out. Those limits set the whole programme. Where a note is unclear, we ask you to confirm it with the surgeon before we go further.

Stage by Stage, Not All at Once

The early visits work on breathing and ankle exercises, turning in bed and sitting on the edge of it. Next come standing, a few steps with a frame, and getting on and off the toilet. Later sessions build knee or shoulder range, strength and stair practice. Each stage opens only when the surgeon’s timeline and your loved one’s comfort allow.

Who It Suits

Operations We Rehabilitate at Home

Every plan is built from the operation notes and the surgeon’s restrictions, then adjusted to what the patient manages.

Knee Replacement

Bending and straightening the new knee, then walking and stairs as allowed.

Hip Replacement

Hip precautions respected while strength, standing and walking are rebuilt.

Spinal Surgery

Safe log-rolling, posture, and core work once the surgeon permits it.

Ligament and Arthroscopy

Graded range and strength work after ACL repair or knee arthroscopy.

Heart and Chest Surgery

Breathing exercises, sternal precautions and a careful return to walking after bypass.

Abdominal Surgery

Early mobilisation, chest clearance and support for the wound while standing and coughing.

Our Approach

Rehabilitation after surgery is a negotiation between healing tissue and lost strength. We keep the surgeon in the loop, record what the joint can do at every visit, and never trade the repair for a quicker-looking recovery.

How It Works

  1. Papers first — discharge summary, operation notes and weight-bearing or movement restrictions are read before anyone exercises.
  2. Baseline check — the therapist looks at the wound, swelling and pain, and measures how far the joint moves.
  3. Stage plan — goals for bed mobility, standing, walking aids and stairs, with the timing the surgeon has set.
  4. Progression — load and range increase only when the previous stage is comfortable and safe.

Reporting — progress notes go to your family and, on request, to the surgeon before the follow-up appointment.

Why the First Weeks Count

Guided movement early on can help reduce stiffness, swelling and the risk of chest infections and clots. Guessing can strain the repair. A physiotherapist who has read the operation notes removes the guesswork.

Physiotherapy After Knee and Hip Replacement

Getting the new joint moving

Families searching for physiotherapy after knee replacement in Lahore usually want two answers: how far should the knee bend by now, and when can the walker be put away. Both come from the surgeon’s protocol rather than from a general rule. At home the physiotherapist measures the bend at every visit, works on the quadriceps and on walking without a limp, and progresses from frame to stick only when standing is steady.
We cover DHA, Gulberg, Johar Town, Model Town, Bahria Town, Wapda Town and nearby areas of Lahore. Where the wound still needs attention, our nurses provide surgical wound care and stitch removal alongside the therapy plan.

FAQs

Post-Surgery Physiotherapy FAQs

Common questions about rehabilitation at home after surgery.

When can rehabilitation start after the operation?

Often within a day or two of coming home, and that is frequently when it matters most. The surgeon’s instructions decide it. Send the discharge summary as soon as you have it and the coordinator will confirm the earliest assessment slot.
In the first fortnight after a major operation many families choose daily or alternate-day visits, then reduce to two or three a week as standing and walking become easier. Each session runs about an hour.
The discharge summary, the operation notes if you have them, and any written restriction on weight-bearing or movement. Also the walking frame or crutches the hospital issued. Where a note is unclear we will ask you to check it with the surgeon rather than guess.
As far as you want us to. Joint measurements, walking distance and session notes are written up for your family and, on request, sent with you to the follow-up appointment so the surgeon can see how the repair is behaving.
That is usually the first goal. The therapist teaches log-rolling or the safe way to sit up, then standing and getting on and off the toilet, and shows the family exactly where to hold and where not to.
Yes. Many patients prefer a therapist of the same gender for exercises involving the hip, groin or chest. Tell us when you book and we will match a male or female physiotherapist where one is available, and a relative can stay in the room throughout.
The assessment visit is charged on its own because it includes reading the operation notes and writing the stage plan. Sessions after that are charged per visit, and the weekly cost depends on how many you choose. Your coordinator confirms the figure before the first visit.
Nobody can give you a date, and we will not invent one. It depends on the operation, the patient’s age and general health, and how the repair heals. What we can do is measure the joint and the walking distance at each visit, so you see the direction rather than guess at it.
