Speech Therapy at Home in Lahore

Losing speech, or the ability to swallow safely, is frightening and isolating. A qualified speech therapist visits your home to assess talking, understanding and swallowing, then works with your loved one and family on exercises and strategies that fit real conversation and real meals.

Speech and Swallowing Therapy at Home

Speech therapy often works best when practice is part of everyday conversation, and home is where that happens. Our therapist assesses speech, understanding and swallowing at your dining table or bedside, then builds exercises around family names, favourite topics and familiar foods. Where speech is very limited, they introduce picture boards, gestures or writing so your loved one can still communicate.

Services Include

Goal

To help your loved one communicate more clearly and swallow more safely, so they can take part in family life with greater confidence.

Who Should Book Speech Therapy?

Adults are referred when speech has become slurred, effortful or muddled after a stroke or head injury, when words will not come although the thought is clear, when the voice has grown quiet with Parkinson’s disease, or when eating has become a struggle and coughing at meals has started. Children are seen for late or unclear speech, stammering, and communication difficulties linked to autism or cerebral palsy.

Speech, Language and Voice

After a stroke the difficulty may be in producing sounds, because the mouth and tongue muscles are weak, or in language itself, where finding and ordering words has become hard. The two need different work. The therapist tests which it is, then builds exercises for breath support, articulation and word finding, and practises them in real sentences rather than drills alone.

Swallowing Problems and Safe Meals

Difficulty swallowing is called dysphagia, and it deserves attention in its own right, because food or liquid entering the airway can cause a chest infection. The therapist watches a meal, checks for coughing, a wet-sounding voice or food left in the mouth, then advises on food texture, drink consistency, sitting upright and the pace of each mouthful.

Our Approach

Speech returns through everyday conversation more than through worksheets. So sessions use your family’s names, the food on your table and the topics your loved one actually cares about, and the people in the house are taught how to give them time to answer.

How It Works

  1. Assessment at the table — speech, understanding, voice and, where relevant, a swallow screen during a real meal or drink.
  2. Priorities set — safe swallowing first, then the communication goals that matter most to the family.
  3. Exercises and strategies — mouth and breathing work, word finding, and practical techniques for conversation.
  4. Family coaching — how to simplify a question, allow silence, and avoid finishing sentences for your loved one.

Written guidance — food textures, drink consistency and seating are written down for everyone who cooks or feeds.

Why Language Choice Matters

Therapy in a second language measures the wrong thing. Where possible, sessions run in the language your loved one uses at home, whether Urdu, Punjabi or English, so progress reflects their speech rather than their schooling.

Speech Therapy After Stroke and for Children

Another way to be understood

Two very different families search for a speech therapist in Lahore. One has a parent who cannot find words after a stroke and is growing withdrawn; the other has a three-year-old who is not yet talking. Both are helped by regular, patient practice in familiar surroundings. Where speech is severely limited, picture boards, gestures and writing give your loved one a way to be understood while the work continues.
Our therapists visit Johar Town, DHA, Gulberg, Model Town, Bahria Town and other areas of Lahore. Speech therapy often runs alongside stroke rehabilitation, and where a feeding tube is in use our nurses provide NG tube care.

FAQs

Speech Therapy FAQs

Common questions about speech and swallowing therapy at home.

How long is a speech therapy session?

Usually thirty to forty-five minutes, two or three times a week, because concentration tires quickly after a stroke or head injury. Children’s sessions are often shorter and more frequent, and a parent stays in the room throughout.
Yes. The therapist watches a real meal or drink, checks for coughing, a wet-sounding voice or food left in the mouth, then advises on texture, drink consistency, sitting position and pace. Where the picture is unclear we ask the doctor to consider a hospital swallow study.
Wherever possible, the language your loved one actually speaks at home, whether Urdu, Punjabi or English. Therapy in a second language measures schooling rather than speech. Tell us the home language when you book so the therapist can be matched to it.
We cannot promise that. How much returns depends on the cause, how much of the brain was affected, and how much practice happens between sessions. Meanwhile picture boards, gestures and writing give your loved one a way to be understood, which matters now rather than later.
Yes. Children are seen at home for late or unclear speech, stammering, and communication differences linked to autism or cerebral palsy. Parents take part in every session, because most of the useful practice happens in ordinary play and conversation.
Yes. Tell us when you book and we will match a male or female speech therapist where one is available. It is worth telling us the home language at the same time, since matching that usually matters just as much to progress.
Charges are per session, with the first assessment priced separately because it is longer and includes a swallow screen where needed. Children’s therapy is usually booked as a block of sessions. Your coordinator explains the rate before the first appointment.
If your loved one is choking and cannot breathe, call 1122 at once. Repeated coughing during meals, a wet voice afterwards or a fever needs a doctor’s review, because food entering the airway can cause a chest infection. Keep to the written textures between visits.
